Pale Swallowtail Butterfly The Pale Swallowtail is one of the largest butterflies in North America with a wing span of up to 3 3/4". Pale Swallowtails are pale cream or butter colored with thick black stripes. They look very similar to the Western Tiger Swallowtail butterfly and it's sometimes difficult to tell them appart. The hind wing of the Pale Swallowtail butterfly is bordered with spots of blue and cream and has a bright orange spot leading to the "tail". Caterpillar
